Time Tested Books is proud to announce the first installment in our 2010 Sacramento Living Library. On January 17th we welcome Tower Records founder Russ Solomon.
In 1960 Russ Solomon founded Tower Records in his father's drugstore at 16th and Broadway in Sacramento. Solomon's original vision of a record store that served the masses but catered to the connoisseur made Tower the most successful international music retailer of all time. At its height Tower boasted stores--record, book and video--across the United States and on every continent (except Antarctica). Solomon's operation also included TRIP, a major music distributor, and Pulse magazine. Tower ended in 2006, but, being a record man, Russ bounced back in 2007 with R5 Records, featuring the familiar red and yellow logo and located in the former Tower Records/Books/Video complex on Broadway.
Solomon will discuss his time with Tower Records and the music industry, as well as what's happening now at R5, with David Watts Barton, editor in chief at SacramentoPress.com and former music writer for the Sacramento Bee.
This event is on Sunday, January 17th, at 7:00pm, and is free to the public.
